Sue Rosendall and her husband, Jim, are semi-retired senior citizens. Since they lost their retirement income in 1988, they’ve traveled the country selling the Metal Brite Electrolytic Plate that removes tarnish from metals. They mostly hit trade shows where people would be interested in products for the care of precious metals.

They enjoyed both the adventure and income from traveling from trade show to trade show in their motor home. After 10 years of doing that, though, they needed to be able to stay home but still keep their business going. Their son, Dave, suggested they begin selling their products online and created a website that enabled them to do it. They managed to do some selling on that site but knew they needed to find a way to grow their business.

A New Tack

That’s when they heard about and attended an Internet seminar by StoresOnline.

“We thought this might help us increase our sales,” said Sue. “I also wanted a company that would help me put together a great Web site by myself and not have to bother my son, who is very busy. StoresOnline did just that. It took me about a month to put the new Web Site up, with lots of great phone help from StoresOnline and hard work from me. As soon as our site was up and running, we noticed an increase in our sales.”

But their sales volume still wasn’t where they wanted it to be. Sue spent a lot of time looking for places to list their products and they did some pay-per-click ads. They also spent a lot of time looking for the right keywords to use to draw traffic to their Web site.

Expanding Into Success

Next, Sue and Jim expanded their product line to include 25 additional related products. They optimized their site using relevant keywords for these products, as well. Their sales eventually grew enough that they now have their own brand of re-plate and polishing chemical manufactured for them.

They now own about 100 domain names that relate to the products they sell.

“We treat our Web site as a real business and spend at least eight hours per day, five days per week working on it,” Sue said. Jim does the bookkeeping, packaging and shipping, and she processes the orders, maintains the site, and does the marketing work.

“I sometimes work on my laptop while watching TV in the evening,” Sue said. “That’s when I re-list on eBay and do my other marketing chores.

“I do believe we owe a lot to StoresOnline. They were always a great help. The best part is we never have to leave home except a daily trip to the post office. Thanks, StoresOnline!”
