Scott Pollock

Before attending a StoresOnline workshop, Scott Pollock worked in the scrap metal industry in the San Antonio, Texas area. He had a strong background and knowledge in buying and selling scrap metal and automotive cores and had several commercial accounts. Scott also had an interest in pursuing a type of business with more potential of expanding beyond his local area. “I had been studying how the Internet had been growing and I knew that some kind of e-commerce type of business was the way to go. I had looked at several different things. And then I got the invitation to come to the workshop with StoresOnline, and that’s a life changer.”

At the StoresOnline workshop, it didn’t take long for Scott to make the decision about buying some websites. “when they started the morning training, about the marketing and that, it's just -- I all of a sudden had things starting to click in my head, and ideas were running, and I'm just like this is it, right here. And so by the lunch time break, I had decided to purchase six websites.”

Scott had not originally planned on using his background in scrap metal and car parts for any of his websites. “I didn't know what I was going to sell when I bought the six sites. I started writing ideas down at the workshop” Those ideas continued to come to Scott for a couple of weeks after the workshop. He was able to use various tools provided by StoresOnline to find out if there was a demand for the products he had in mind to sell.

As he researched potential products, he revisited the idea of using his experience with car parts. Scott remembered a friend named Hugo who ran a parts shop. A few months earlier, Hugo was telling Scott that he wished he could focus his shop exclusively on Cylinder heads and get away from some of the other parts they had been manufacturing. However, he didn’t think that this was financially possible. “After I’d done my research, I went in and talked to Hugo. And I said, ‘Hugo, do you remember what you told me, that you'd like to do just cylinder heads and get away from the engines?’ He said, ‘Yeah. But I can't afford to.’ ‘What would you say if I can build a website and we'll sell cylinder heads and ship them all over the world?’ ‘You can do that?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I'm an Internet marketing expert now.’ So and that was the birth of that one.”

Scott had very little computer knowledge prior to his experiences with Storesonline. “My computer experience, the day when I went to the workshop, was limited to email, and I sometimes had trouble with that. The StoresOnline software is just magnificent. It's very easy to use. And if you have any problems, you can either get somebody on the phone or on the live chat, and you get the help and you get your problems solved, 99 times out of 100, within two or three minutes.”

As Scott began to apply some of the marketing strategies that were made available to him as a StoresOnline merchant, he began to see progress with his search engine rankings and traffic. “I started out with the pay-per-click. Then I started having a lot of other independents just contacting me, asking me if they could put me on their sites. They've basically put links to my site on their sites. Plus I've done a few things to get myself moved up in the ranks. I just checked it on Google last week and I am number seven on the relevancy.”

Scott attended the StoresOnline workshop in February and got his first site up in July and his second up in September. “I got my first sale, it was about three days after we went live. That was exciting. I just, I had to tell everybody. You know, it was just an exciting thing, that I actually sold something on the Internet.” Scott found success during his first year online.

Scott now has four websites up and running. “Once you get going with this, you know, ideas just keep coming to you. And once you get the handle on it the first time, the second time is much easier. And the third time and then the fourth time, it just becomes, you know, you can do it in the dark in your sleep, or whatever.”

Reflecting on how his life has changed since StoresOnline, Scott says, “My lifestyle before the workshop was kind of like living, almost like from week to week. Now, I mean, it's, you know, it's just totally changed. We're taking more vacations, and getting to travel some more, and we're just -- we're enjoying life, which we couldn't do before. I have not seen a better company anywhere out there. And that comes from the heart and from my business experience too, because before I came across StoresOnline, I had looked for something to do, and nobody measured up to what I thought, and StoresOnline has more than measured up.”
